$this->assertTrue($developer->isBored);

I wish now that I had used TDD from the get-go. Writing unit tests for all of my controllers in one go is kind of boring. Especially since I manually tested them before. Still, it’s nice to know that I can check all of my controllers at any given time by pressing one button in JetBrains PhpStorm (Lovely IDE by the way, go check it out). I have actually been watching some Dota 2 matches on my other monitors, so it hasn’t been all work and no play, but I haven’t stopped writing tests all this time.

I’m gonna go stick the kettle on now and maybe watch some telly before I go to bed. I stayed up way to late last night and overslept this morning. I have no intentions of doing it again tomorrow, so it’s a somewhat early bed for me today.

Evening of Thrones

I meant to write a short entry yesterday, but for some reason I forgot. Yesterday evening was Evening of Thrones which means, as you might deduce given the name, that a few friends and I gather and watch the latest episode of Game of Thrones. We’ve been doing it since the beginning of season three and it’s actually really nice to watch the series together with people. That way you can all geek out at the end and discuss the episode immediately after watching it.

Now I have to write some unit tests for a CakePHP application I’m developing, but I’ll probably write another entry before the day is at an end.

(Kind of) new phone

Galaxy S4

Last Monday I visited a local mobile phone retailer and collected my Galaxy S4. For the last two years, I have used an iPhone 4 and, while I was pleased with it, I felt like an upgrade was in order. A few friends and I stayed up and watched the live stream of the unveiling of the S4 on March 14 and the following day, I stopped by the retailer and put in an advance order for one.

I have been using it for a week now and I think it’s amazing. I haven’t really had time (or rather, I haven’t really felt like taking the time) to explore all of the features of the phone, but so far I’m thoroughly pleased with the experience. I’m still getting used to the back-button, but I suppose I’ll get accustomed to it in due time.

As I explore the various features, I might give you some further opinions and thoughts on it, but for now you’ll just have to make due with my expressions of excitement.

Hummus Monday

I love hummus – it’s great! You can eat it as an appetizer, as the main dish, as a dip or sauce or even as a dessert (I don’t know if most people would agree with that last one, but I could eat hummus for dessert). It’s really tasty and really nutritious.  For those of you who don’t know, hummus is made from chickpeas (Hummus is actually Arabic for chickpeas), t’hina and a few other ingredients. I make a batch of hummus every other week or so, but I want to make it more often.

Today is a hummus day and I’m in the middle of making it. I just finished the t’hina (sesame seed paste) and I’m cooking the chickpeas. A while back, I found this great recipe for hummus on a blog called simply “The Hummus Blog” and, while I do not follow it to the letter, the result is truly amazing.

I usually eat hummus as a snack or mini-meal and serve it on a plate with chopped parsley and olive oil. Sometimes I eat it on its own and sometimes I eat it with bread (either pita or sour-dough  bread), but regardless of how I eat it, I savour every single mouthful.

Try it yourself – it’s great!

Thoroughly Unproductive Weekend

I’ve been kind of tired this weekend and so I haven’t really done anything. Friday night was spent at a friends place where the two of us configured the DNS & DHCP services on the CentOS machine I was working a bit on earlier this week. We successfully set up the services, but decided not to discard his old router quite yet, since we haven’t really decided how to handle the firewall-bit. I got home around 1030 PM and went on to play two games of Dota 2 before going to bed.

Waking up on Saturday to my 10 AM alarm, I felt completely beat and decided to just sleep in. By 1 PM I had managed to make my way out of bed and all the way over to the living room where I spent the rest of the day re-watching old episodes on Buffy.

When I woke up today, I decided to do some coding on a project I’m currently working on. I might tell you more about the project later on, but for now all you need to know is that it is really exciting. I spent a half-hour coding before grabbing some breakfast and – surprise surprise – continuing my Buffy “marathon”. At 4 PM I met up with my sister at a local sports bar and watched our city’s (best) football team play an away game. They drew one all against a team that had won every game so far this season (not as impressive as it might sound as the Swedish football season starts in the spring and ends in the fall).

The real highlight of the weekend was (sad as it might sound) the portobello burger with coriander pesto and mozzarella I had at the sports bar. It was amazingly delicious.

This week I’ll try to get some work done on the “secret” project as well as my project management system (projects.mastr.se).

Let There Be Text

I’m just sat here setting up some new virtual linux machines for a gaming community a few friends and I are setting up. We’re running CentOS (DNS, DHCP) and OpenSUSE (Web) through Hyper-V.

I like working in the text-only environments, but sometimes they drive me nuts like for instance when you type command –help and get a wall of text smacked in your face. There might be a way to scroll up/down even when working in text-only mode on a virtual machine, but I don’t know about it.

Oh well, onward to set up an internal SSH-daemon on the SUSE machine!

A Fresh Start

Hello dear reader,

I don’t know how you stumbled across my blog or whether you’ve read any of my previous blogs or not, but I wish to welcome you to this one where I intend to get a (somewhat) fresh start.

In most of my previous blogs I’ve tried to make sure that I only write long, meaningful posts, but I will try to write shorter, completely meaningless posts this time around.

I will probably write mostly about adventures in the “computer world”, but might post the occasional entry about my escapades in the real world.
